Final countdown: 3 days until we Scream!

Who and What: Scream! For the Cure is a multi-author, multi-genre auction to benefit Stand Up 2 Cancer, one of the leaders in supporting cancer research. 100% of donations goes to research.

When: Beginning October 5th readers will have an opportunity to bid for baskets. The categories are Erotic Romance, Urban Fantasy, YA & Adult paranormal romance, and Horror/Suspense. We’ll be showcasing the baskets the week they go up for auction, with the auctions taking place on that Friday.

How: In the comments. When the auction posts go live, you bid in the comment section.

More: In-between, we’ll also have guest posts from different authors and bloggers talking about their personal struggles with cancer, some who’ve battled the disease themselves, and some who have witnessed the ongoing struggle through someone else. *WAVES* I'll be posting, and crying. So I'm coming with a box of kleenex.

Plus: It’ll also be a forum for people to talk about their experiences, maybe share some uplifting stories as well. It’ll be whatever we want it to be.

Here's a quick glance at some of the Urban Fantasy, YA, Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, and Horror Authors participating.

New Release: The Trouble With Memories by Eva Lafoy

Helium toads!

That’s just one of the new creatures you’ll find in Eva Lefoy’s The Trouble With Memories. What are helium toads, you ask? Well, they’re toads that exist in a helium environment. You’ll find them scattered all over the universe, wherever helium pockets exist.

If you watch closely, you’ll also see a redhead with her phase-pistol ready and an over-abundance of attitude go zooming by. That’s Lucy Borasco and right now, she’s on a mission to get her ex-boyfriend back. She’s smart, she’s sassy and she rarely takes “no” for an answer. And if you serve her canned fish, look out!

Right behind her will be Captain California Sykes, an ace pilot who’s lost his memories and needs them back – fast - before forgetting Lucy proves dangerous to his health. She’s harder to handle than the Martians, who seem to have forgotten they’re extinct. And she looks sexy in green. What man could resist?

Join Lucy and Cal as they try to save the universe – and each other – in this colorful romp through space infested with helium toads, frozen comet tails and other sorts of fragging fun!

The universe just got a lot more colorful.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Lt. Borasco—”
“Lucy. It’s Lucy, remember?”
“Unfortunately, no. I don’t.” He shook his head, but no cobwebs loosened.
She scowled and huffed like a frustrated brat and put her hands on her hips. “I don’t believe you.”
“Well, Lucy, it’s true.” He licked his lips and his throat went dry, the taste of her name sucking the air right out of him. Good or bad sign? Proceed, or caution? “To be honest, I don’t remember anything before Mars. In fact, I don’t even remember most of the mission.”
“What? How can that be?” She frowned, her eyebrows dipping low. “Wait. From before you left? You mean you don’t remember being with me?” She pointed at her chest.
He shrugged, knowing admitting he’d forgotten her was a dumb move. If he was her, he’d be throwing a dark star of a fit. But at the same time his gaze couldn’t help lingering on her chest. He liked what he saw. Maybe he could talk her into a quickie. Down boy, down.
“I don’t fragging believe this.” She ran her hand through her shortish red hair and slapped the data pad against her shapely thigh while she walked an arc around the room, ending by the windows.
The windows flexed and the floor rumbled as the jets did another close fly-by. He ignored them in favor of intently ogling the rounded globes of Lucy’s ass. When she spun to face him, he nearly lost his balance.
Three steps later, she was in his face. He braced himself for her wrath.
Her fingers curled around his collar nice and tight. When she gave him a light shake, his head whipped back and forth. Maybe she was trying to rattle some sense back into his malfunctioning brain.. “Comet tails, Cal. If this is some game you’re playing to make me miss you, I swear I’ll fill your ass with helium and shoot you out one of those planes!”
He loved how the fire in her eyes matched her hair and the way she jutted out her chin at the end of her pronouncement. But he’d told her the truth. This was no game. His memories of her were completely gone. “How can I prove to you I’m not lying?”
Her lips curled up in a smirk. “Kiss me.”
With a confident toss of her head she laid claim to him, answering his questions about how he’d known her. Hell, he hadn’t known her, apparently he’d known her. The news made his dick swell with pride. His mouth quirked into a cocky smile.
“Come on, Cal. Today’s Valentine’s Day after all.” Her hands caressed his neck, working their way up his jaw. “One little goodbye kiss won’t hurt.”
Her touch confused him. Familiar yet foreign. New sensations and ghostly memories rose toward the surface of his mind but were squashed before they reached the light. He shook his head but the cobwebs didn’t clear. Why couldn’t he remember? Everything but those fragging ships seemed vague.
A twinge in his right shoulder shot up his neck, and he couldn’t help thinking the pain was a warning. He braced for more, but none immediately came. He wanted out of this box, wanted answers. But he wouldn’t endanger anyone else to get them.
“Lucy.” His voice sounded hoarse, as if he’d sucked sand into his windpipe. “Don’t.”

My wrap up for the year post will be coming by the end of the week. In the mean time here's my list of reads for the month of December. I didn't get nearly as much read as I wanted to.

1. What an Earl Wants by Kasey Michaels*
2. Forever a Lord by Delilah Marvelle*
3. The Other Side of Us by Sarah Mayberry***
4. Death by Chocolate by Julie Lindsey **
5. The Duchess War by Courtney Milan
6. Fallen by Celeste Bradley***

10. Deck the Halls with Love by Lorraine Heath
11. Death's Angel by Heather Killough-Walden***

In the new year it's more indies, more romance, and more happy reading times. I don't have any definitive plans besides a wedding in August, and hopefully a finished book at some point. In the meantime, my new year's resolution of posting regularly... well, I won't hold  myself to any promises. My plan to continue to review as I can is still in affect, though I plan on backing off a little bit to focus on the gazillion other things I have going on.

Review: The Angel by Tiffany Reisz

Review: The Angel by Tiffany Reisz

Rating: 5 Stars!

For more info on Tiffany Reisz, this book, and other works visit her website here.

This book left with my mouth gaping. Now to call upon the one person to fill that hole *gasp*. She what Ms. Reisz does to me with her words. Suddenly I'm a randy, insane female willing to publish naughty words on my blog. Her first book, The Siren, was merely a stretching exercise and lesson in proper breathing techniques. Every word penned before only sought to sink you further into oblivion. The Angel is the flogger, the testing phase to see how much you can take. Let me go on the record in saying: "I can handle more."

We've got several main players: Nora, Griffin, Michael, and Soren. There's some Kingsley and a bit of Wesley in there too. Couple that with enough sexual high jinks and kinks, and I was on fire! Could not put this down. We follow Nora to the New York countryside. She's hiding out to help Soren deflect a nosy reporter and some nasty rumors. In addition to hiding she's training a new sub and getting plenty of action from Griffin to keep her mind occupied. Only when is Nora ever satisfied with just 1 man? The would be a n-to-the-e-v-e-r!

My favorite part of the story-- well, all of it!

My favorite line: "Have you ever had sex in the back of a Rolls Royce?"

This is BDSM Erotica at it's finest. A mix of pleasure, pain, and characters that continual keep you guessing. Reisz does a marvelous job with dialogue. It bites, cuts, and just when you think someone will say something they shut their mouths. The sprinkle of back story throughout the pages, until your screaming for more, is another talent Reisz possesses. My praise could go on for hours. No sagging middle, no boredom, no skipping paragraphs due to over description. Eyes wide and glued to each syllable is a pre-requisite.

The bottom line (remember she left a ton of marks) this book is not for the faint of heart. If you enjoyed The Siren, The Angel will secure your ticket on the train to sinners paradise. For BDSM fans this is a book you should purchase immediately, and I mean a hardback copy. You'll want to show this off on the bookshelf. If this is your first foray into the world of BDSM Erotica I suggest you proceed with caution or start with Reisz's earlier works to break yourself in.

Summer Reading List: May-July 2012

I haven't been very diligent these summer months, but I decided at the last minute to fill in with an update of what I've been reading. When I wrote everything down I was surprised by how small the list was. Normally I could bust out this many books in a month. But I guess it's more about quality rather then quantity.

3. Melt Into You by Roni Loren
4. Still Into You by Roni Loren
5. Without A Spark by George Berger**
6. Rift of Askrah Book 1: Fracture by Benjamin Andrews**
7. Scandal Wears Satin by Loretta Chase***
8. Return of the Viscount by Gayle Callen***
9. Forever A Lady by Delilah Marvelle***
10. Lessons From A Scandalous Bride by Sophie Jordan***

14. How to be a Proper Lady by Katherine Ashe***
15. A Gentleman Undone by Cecilia Grant***

Blog Joy Saturday- November 12, 2011

Just realized the automaton never posted this like it was supposed to. *Shakes fist at computer screen* Devils, I say. Sorry for the delay... I'm calm now. Moving onward.

Today's blog joy is for the Romance Book blogs. These book blogs either review, giveaway, and/or interview romance authors about their latest releases. Most of the blogs are must subscribe or visit daily as there is always something good going on.

Let's start with the Romance Bandits! I talk about these ladies a lot. Some of my favorite romance writers blog with them including Anna Campbell, who guested on my Writing Profession series. They have a new website, the blogger site is now shutdown. Except the new site is even better, more links, more fun, and just more everything. Check it out here.

Next up The Season. This blog has the best giveaways I've ever seen. Books just fly from this blog on a continuous basis. Plus there is a huge amount of reviews, free reads, publishing info and more. To be honest I currently review for this site and love it! Of course I'm going to tell you all to go and visit. I can promise that you won't regret it if you're a romance lover.

Finally two other review blogs make it to BJS. Both are romance review blogs and awesome of course!

We have the lovely Rita Jett on Not Another Romance Blog . Now the posts are not as hot and heavy this year as in previous ones because the lovely blog creator is busy and toiling away at schooling. Regardless she does tend to get some of the best on dits and I still recommend that you put the site on your radar.

Then there's Romancing Rakes. Ran by the ever naughty and wicked Kati R. You can find her on twitter but her review blog is completely enchanting. By enchanting I mean that Kati is honest and wonderful. She reviews a lot of different books and there's always some good recommendations on her site. I easily get lost for at least an hour whenever I visit.

Now these are my topic picks, but as always I'm open to trying new sites and things. Do you have a favorite review blog for romance, sci-fi, YA, or other genres? Where should I go? Tell me! :)

Reading List for October 2011

I really did  a doozy on October. I guess I felt I need to play catchup after having such a lackluster September in the reading department. Not that the books were lackluster, just that I needed to read more. As we head into Nanowrimo month I have a feeling that I will be reading less and writing more. Ideally anyway. With Halloween behind us I'm also looking forward to that wonderful day of days that involves turkey, stuffing, and a dozen other things to add more inches to my waistline.

1. Mistress by Marriage by Maggie Robinson
2. Any Wicked Thing by Margaret Rowe
3. Avenger's Angel by Heather Killough-Walden*
4. Bride for a Night by Rosemary Rogers
5. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa*
6. Jane Austen: Blood Persuasion by Janet Mullany*
7. The Secret Desires of a Governess by Tiffany Clare
8. Adam by Jacquelyn Frank*
9. Death Magic by Eileen Wilks*
10. Werewolf in the North Woods by Vicki Lewis Thompson*
11. Cemetery Girl by David Bell*
12. A Very Vampy Christmas by Kerrelyn Sparks
13. Jewel in His Crown by Lynne Graham*
14. The Ice Prince by Julie Marton *
15. Christmas in Lucky Harbor by Jill Shalvis
17. Silver Tongued Devil by Jennifer Blake*
18. The Price of Temptation by Lecia Cornwall*

*Review available or upcoming on The Season E-Zine

I will also be posting some of these reviews here on my blog periodically. So, be on the lookout! Bwahahahaha.... my evil laugh.

I've been absent...

I've been absent for the last couple of weeks. No excuses, just life rearing it's ugly head, as you all know. Well I say 'Screw That'! Time to get back on track.

To lead in to that I bring you my reading list for April.

-Secrets of a Proper Countess by Lecia Cornwall
-Midnights Wild Passion by Anna Campbell **
-What the Librarian Did by Karina Bliss
-Cloudy with a Chance of Marriage by Kieran Kramer
-School for Brides by Cheryl Ann Smith
-Dangerous in Diamonds by Madeline Hunter
-Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart by Sarah MacLean
-Bonded By Blood by Laurie London
-My Dangerous Pleasure by Carolyn Jewel*
-Hornet's Nest by Patricia Cornwell
-Provacative in Pearls by Madeline Hunter
-Then Comes Seduction by Mary Balogh
-Scandal of the Year by Olivia Drake
-The Secret of Cypriere Bayou by Jana Deleon

Can't say that this is a bad list. 14 books in a month. That's pretty good seeing that I spend way too much money as it is. That instant purchase clicker on the B&N Nook site is killer. Unfortunately it was hard to locate some fantasy that weren't in the high genre. Right now I cannot seem to bring myself to get lost or dug in deep with a high fantasy.
Although, I have a David Eddings book that has been sitting on my nightstand for 2 years that I should probably read at some point.

*A review for Carolyn Jewel's next release will be posted on my blog in the next week.
** Midnight's Wild Passion is my Historical Romance pick of the month. For me this book was beyond expectations. I love Anna Campbell anyway, but her tortured hero Ranelaw is just about too much!

My reading list for March

Today is the last day of March (another hour and April will be here). It's a little sad saying goodbye to the winter months, when I would sequester myself to the couch with a good book huddled under a blanket, and wishing I had been given a snuggie for Christmas. With my farewell to winter and my welcome to Spring, I once again offer my list of books I have devoured for the month of March.

Here we go:

1. Lord Ruin by Carolyn Jewel
2. Dreams of Desire by Cheryl Holt
3. Too Wicked To Wed by Cheryl Holt
4. Colter's Woman by Maya Banks
5. Colter's Lady by Maya Banks
6. The Lady Most Likely
7. Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James
8. Wicked Becomes You by Meredith Duran
9. Written on Your Skin by Meredith Duran
10. The Dangerous Viscount by Miranda Neville
11. The Countess by Lynsay Sands
12. An Accidental Birthright by Maisey Yates
13. The Trouble with Moonlight by Donna MacMeans
14. The Wedding Duel by Katy Madison
15. The Dutiful Rake by Elizabeth Rolls
16. The Chivalrous Rake by Elizabeth Rolls
17. Seducing the Duchess by Ashley March
18. What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long
19. Delrium by Lauren Oliver

Unfortunately due to the month containing 3 birthdays and a couple of other important family gatherings, I did not meet my normal once a day book consumption. I humbly resolve that my goals will not be met in April as well. For with the 1st brings my launch into writing a novel in 60 days.

For the month of April I am moving to Fantasy and Dystopian as a main focus, with the exception of a few absolutely must buys including Beverly Kendall's novella.

Next Up: Iron Duke by Meljean Brooks

The time has come

Yes, it is time. Time to list out my horrible consumption for the world to see. While I may be Slush, I devour fiction without remorse. Edible delights consumed every day to sate my appetite. Little morsels that leave me hungry for more...

Without further ado:

Lord Baybrook's Penniless Bride by Elizabeth Rolls
Scandal of the Year by Laure Lee Guhrke
The Heiress by Lynsay Sands
The Perfect Scandal by Delilah Marvelle
After Dark with a Scoundrel by Alexandra Hawkins
The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce
A Secret Affair by Mary Balogh
When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloise James
An Affair before Christmas by Eloise James
The Seduction of His Wife by Tiffany Clare
My Reckless Surrender by Anna Campbell
Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah MacLean
Sinful Surrender by Beverley Kendall
A Taste of Desire by Beverley Kendall
A Week of Pleasure by Christie Kelley
The Infamous Rogue by Alexandra Benedict
The Plumed Bonnet by Mary Balogh
The Ideal Wife by Mary Balogh
Lord Carew's Bride by Mary Balogh
Stealing Heaven by Madeline Hunter
Sweet Release by Pamela Clare
Surrender by Amanda Quick
Deception by Amanda Quick
Affair by Amanda Quick
The Book of Scandal by Julia London
Love with a Scandalous Lord by Lorraine Heath
Not Quite a Gentleman by Jacquie D'Alessandro
By Design by Madeline Hunter

And that is what I have been reading. For the most part 1 book a day is pretty satisfying. Would you believe that I can even recall the details of the books. Thinking that maybe I should be reviewing some of the newer books that have provided so much aromatic pleasure...not sure though.

My plan is to finish out March inhaling Historical Romance. Then I am off to quench my hunger with a new genre. Looking for suggestions, though I am sure some would like me to continue where I am.

Just so the fair author's of such tantalizing eatery are not offended you should know that I have multiple upcoming releases still on my list of must buys!

P.S. Yes I know a little bit of a Romance Slush! But who doesn't like a good romance... be serious.

How do you decide love?

Love is in the eye of the beholder or at least it appears that way. You could think of it in terms as one person's junk is another person's treasure. In terms of a novel, when do you decide if you love it or not?

Is it after you catch a glimpse of the cover art and title? Is it after you read the brief, hooking paragraph on the back cover? After the first 3 chapters? Or when you finish the book having either laughed aloud, sobbed through the last 20 pages, or yelled at the main character for being an idiot?

I would say in all my years of reading, the words, "I love this!", come after the finale- never before. I have to read all the pages to know if the book really has me hooked. The cover and title may be interesting, the back cover catching, the first 3 chapters alluring, but the end tells me if the whole experience was worth my money.

This philosophy is present with the music I choose to listen to, the movies I watch, and the other forms of media I submit myself to devoting time to.

For those who decide the fate of something prior to the end miss the magic, romance, or horror that unfolds in the middle and the revelations at the end.

The phrase, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet", has no meaning if you have never read Romeo and Juliet.

To truly love something you have to experience the entirety not just a little tidbit.
