When I wrote everything down I was surprised by how small the list was. Normally I could bust out this many books in a month. But I guess it's more about quality rather then quantity.

So, no slow down. Let me be the first to say that I didn't plan on reading much this month. Then on Black Friday I went to the bookstore... my mistake! Not really a mistake, and I did get a compliment from the lovely cashier that I was their number 1 customer of the day. That's right I'm a big spender. Writing Profession Series- The Copywriter

New week, new profession! This week I'm focusing on the Copywriter.
First, blogger was down Wednesday night and this post is late. I say, devils! Also my involvement with other duties, partially writing related, delayed me as well. More to come on that exciting news soon.

Back to business!
What I know about copywriting covers very little. I've heard the term mentioned countless times in the professional world, but the details and nuances are never mentioned. Honestly, I never asked anyone for the answers, but that's going to change. Right. Now.
My guest today is Shona Snowden. She is a copywriter and writes fiction-- her words, not mine. I would say that Shona is a published author. I'm uber excited that she agreed to talk about copywriting and without further ado here's the scoop!

The old saying about writing being one per cent inspiration and 99% perspiration applies solidly to working as a copywriter.

The copy writing career that most people think of most often, and probably as the most glamorous, is the big ad agency writer – the creator of those snappy slogans, witty tv ads and unforgettable ambient campaigns. Remember that sweat, though - even when the words are few, the thinking, the debating and the frustration behind them is quite monumental. The hours spent staring at a blank screen, an empty piece of paper or a white wall, many of those hours in the wee small hours of the morning when the client expects the idea by 9am aren't so fun. What's even less fun is when the client rejects the idea by 9.10am and it's back to that blank screen!
Thankfully for those of us who struggle to encapsulate a four-page brief in a three-word slogan, there are alternative copy writing careers available. Design agencies push through a lot of work, including brochures, flyers, posters, packaging, in-house or customer magazines, web sites, marketing material and all kinds of related collateral – there is almost no limit to what they can handle. And almost all of it needs some kind of words. Few agencies have writers in house, which brings us to one of the most common ways in which copywriters are employed – freelance.
With a little help from the internet or a reliable little business book, it's easy to set up your own freelance business and get started. Qualifications are wonderful things and there are college courses available, however for most writers the most important thing is their portfolio – a collection of previous projects that shows your wit, charm and general control of spelling and grammar*.
Other copywriters find reliable work by working for large companies – companies that need a wide range of brochures, publish regular newsletters or launch new products multiple times a year. Some of these companies employ in-house writers; others use a stable of freelances. And, of course, the proliferation of digital media has led to a proliferation of work for copywriters – web sites, blogs, Facebook and Twitter are important elements of corporate marketing – and somebody has to write them.
The versatility of working as a copywriter makes it a career that can last a lifetime. As long you don't mind a bit of perspiration along with your inspiration!

Okay, the nail has hit on the head! Copywriting officially sounds like something I could do... possibly, if I didn't stress out the first time the words fail to come to me. So, adding the words to newsletters, websites, etc. is copy writing. I'm already doing that, and I bet half of you out there are doing that too! From Shona's explanation copy writing doesn't sound that bad of a career, especially from the major corporation aspect.
Now when you are working on that website or helping a friend develop a flyer the project will mean more, as you could use the work as a reference for free lancing ability. Regardless being a copy writer sounds like a job that carries a lot of competition, especially in the free lance market.

Let me say right now that I went on a reading binge! It was a ton of fun and I overloaded my mind with romance. Swimming in a sea of romance really. Some of my fave author's are in the group listed above, and several I had not experienced the pleasure of reading until I jumped into this month. FYI: I do believe this is a record for me.
I will say that reading this many books in one month can splinter a person from reality. My entire existence seemed to inhale the written word, and I tended to be quite useless to just about everyone. Plenty more on my TBR list for August and I'm still catching up on some reviews that need to kicked out.

No Excerpt... Just awards!

It's official, this blog of Slush is an award winner, Yeah!

While the awards do not include trophies, chocolate covered fruit, or (my personal favorite) a 12-pk. of Dr. Pepper. These awards do make me feel humble because I am humbled anytime someone pays me attention. Love it! Love it!

Do I seem a little hyper-active to you?? It's the Sudafed I swear and no, I do not condone the use of OTC Medications for other than what the labels and boxes and stuff say.

Wow! Now I had to pick this out myself and seeing as how I am the Queen of Procrastination and screwing off in the workplace, it seemed like me. Just to confirm how I fit this title, I am at work writing this blog post. What a jack monkey am I!

1. I love musicals. Yes, I'm a freak, but I used to parade around listening to Hello Dolly (and singing it) at the age of two. I know all the songs in the Phantom of the Opera, King and I, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Cats, and more! I am honestly a huge Rogers and Hammerstein fan, a classics kind of gal vs. modern day musical. I am always open to horizon expansion though if someone has a good recommendation.

2. The quickest way to my good graces is to feed me. I am the cheapest date/person you will ever meet. Show up with food, especially yummy food (Taco Bell, McDonald's, Chick Fila, Sonic, or anything) and I'm your new best friend willing to die on the field of battle for you.

3.  I play the violin. Have since the 5th grade and my affinity is for Bach, Vivaldi, and good ol' Irish folk tunes. I can play a jig like no other and love to get a little fancy with butterflies and a May Pole. In recent years I haven't got to play as much as I would like but every now and again I break out the fiddle.

4. Getting lost is not part of my internal structure. That's right, you heard correctly. I don't get lost. Even when I try to get lost on back roads or around the neighborhood, I ultimately find a new way home or discover a road, landmark or something I recognize from a previous visit. This only leads to my destination and pissing myself off. Because let's face every once and while you want to get lost.

5. A firm believer in 'Do unto others as they do unto you'. So you like being snooty, rude, and just a general tight wad. That's fine I can be the same right back at ya. 'Killing with kindness' is a phrase designed for people who are naturally liked. I am generally scorned. Therefore, I will be more than happy to dish out whatever you want to serve.

6. My ocd complex is limited to cleanliness. I cannot stand dirt in my fingernails, lint in my belly button, or dead skin on my feet. TMI, I know. But to be clean is compared to holy so naturally I must be clean, exfoliating and plenty of alcohol based cleansing included.

7. Some of my happiest moments have been spent with a book in my hand. I love reading almost more than I love writing. Lock me in a library with food, in door plumbing, and infinite amounts of time and I would be the happiest person you know. Companionship is wonderful but people tend to drive you crazy after a while. Most of the time you couldn't get rid 'em if you tried, without hit up an 8x8 barred cell. Remember the phrase 'Can't live with 'em...'
Anyways, books and the characters within change. If you don't like 'em, you don't have to read the next installment. You can always change generes if you want something a little more comedic or with a spark more romance. Bottom Line: I like people, but I love books. It gives me a chance to pretend I'm someone else (a new person each day) and still have the choice to come back to reality or not.

Can't say that this is a bad list. 14 books in a month. That's pretty good seeing that I spend way too much money as it is. That instant purchase clicker on the B&N Nook site is killer. Unfortunately it was hard to locate some fantasy that weren't in the high genre. Right now I cannot seem to bring myself to get lost or dug in deep with a high fantasy.

Although, I have a David Eddings book that has been sitting on my nightstand for 2 years that I should probably read at some point.

The Triple A

It's Sunday!!!!!
Less than 12 hours of freedom before I disappear into the work week, which is going to be a nightmare. *strangling self*

Until then I pause to bring a shameless plug *coughs* I mean post to someone who inspires me. This particular person inspires me so much that I am procastinating and not working on my 60n60 project to write this monologue. So here it goes:

The Triple A stands for Absolutely Awesome Amazing. Corny, I know, but true.
When speaking of the Triple A, I speak of a person I honestly have never met. Have I known this individual for years? No, but I have seen the amazing things that she does. This is a organized, intelligent individual that works from sunup til sundown and beyond. She takes care of a farm, blogs each and every single day, and is diligently focused on getting a writing career started for her and half a dozen individuals that she assists.
This is a woman who is admired from near and afar. She has many friends who would gladly offer to do just about anything for her, with the exception of kidnapping a particular evil entity and delivering him to her doorstep (he would probably go on his own free will though).

This is someone who willingly signed herself up for an extremely difficult task. She started a contest for an anthology, reviewed, provided feedback, and judged the entries (I was one of those crazies to enter). The idea of taking on such a project is daunting. This crazy, wonderful person took it one step further with editing, cover art, and publishing said anthology. She also has willingly offered support and motivation to me without bribes or blackmail, which I usually have to do to get others to submit.

Unfortunately due to the month containing 3 birthdays and a couple of other important family gatherings, I did not meet my normal once a day book consumption. I humbly resolve that my goals will not be met in April as well. For with the 1st brings my launch into writing a novel in 60 days.

For the month of April I am moving to Fantasy and Dystopian as a main focus, with the exception of a few absolutely must buys including Beverly Kendall's novella.

To write is to also read. You cannot expect to be a good writer unless you consume volumes of elaborate prose within the genre you adore correct? Most agents and authors would agree, although I am sure there are some out there who fall outside of that mold.

Regardless to help all of you wonderful people get their daily dose of reading I propose blogs as a medium to turn to when you are tired of news articles, magazines of celebrity hounding, and no time for reading a full book or short story. Heck, blogs usually tell the story. The story of the downtrodden, misty eyed, aspiring romantic author. The story of the witty, acerbic science fiction author that provide a humor, curse-filled look at ordinary topics.
To help you find some of these places, which exist beyond the blogger realm, I provide links of delight, pictures of morsels, tasty ideas (yes, I know too much description. Show don't tell). Here's to the showing.

My Top Five Blogs of Saturday

5. Maisey Yates I know after you all read this list you are going to say I am a little leaning with my Top 5 this week, I say boo! If it's good I will post it. Maisey is a wonderful romance author. She speaks from the heart and I like her. Spunky, sassy, and I am sure raising three kids deserves a ton of praise! Her blog is on her website. She offers a neat perspective and insight to writing, fun stories, and some giveaways. I encourage a look at someone who has accomplished her dreams and is living them.

4. The Semi-Organic Mom Like talking about kids, motherhood, and laughing at those funny stories only Mom's have (because the kids do the silliest stuff). Then Semi-Organic Mom is the way to travel. She also offers some great advice and research on mom topics, even for those who are not quite a mom but on their way (bun in the oven, pot on to boil, spawn of hell waiting to burst, etc).

3. Life, Muse, and Coffee This blog I just found. Great advice for writers, fun interviews to different authors I would have never thought to check out. All around fun and enlightenment. Just take a peek!

2. Limecello!!! Lime offers a little bit of fun. There are interviews, recipes, ranging comments. Just good times, great posts, and laughs. Her blog makes you feel like having fun and Lime is always eager to respond to her commenter's. Plus I recently won a free book from Lime's blog and love the idea of giveaways!

1. The Season Blog Are you interested in romance??? The Season Blog is where you need to go! Giveaways, author interviews on the latest and greatest out. Plus this blog is attached to a website that offers reviews on each month's romance novels in every category. I'm talking historical, contemporary, paranormal. The Season gives you a chance to get a little more info about a romance book you may be thinking about and more. Couldn't dote on this site enough as it has influenced multiple purchases (Yes, I read romance, like to keep my options open)!

And that is what I have been reading. For the most part 1 book a day is pretty satisfying. Would you believe that I can even recall the details of the books. Thinking that maybe I should be reviewing some of the newer books that have provided so much aromatic pleasure...not sure though.

My plan is to finish out March inhaling Historical Romance. Then I am off to quench my hunger with a new genre. Looking for suggestions, though I am sure some would like me to continue where I am.

Just so the fair author's of such tantalizing eatery are not offended you should know that I have multiple upcoming releases still on my list of must buys!

P.S. Yes I know a little bit of a Romance Slush! But who doesn't like a good romance... be serious.

Moving to a new Genre

For the last 3 months I have been overtaken with Romance and Historicals. Now I know that some would call romance novels chocolate candy that devours you completely and I agree!

All my reading has brought me to the wonderful realization that there are soooo many wonderful romance authors out there. They provide delicious books that I absolutely must inhale and I love the series that tell the stories of groups of sisters or friends that find love. Anyhoo, I have decided that in April I will move on to a new genre. Not sure which one that should be so I need help and suggestions.

For all my fav historical author's do not be distraught! I still plan on snatching up the latest upcoming release's in April and May.

I will post this weekend on some of those great author's and their upcoming books that just have to be purchased by my greedy eyes!
