New Book Spotlight: If You Can't Stand The Heat by Taryn Kincaid

Blurb: Derek Dunne is a Cordon Bleu-trained food critic for the prestigious New York Monitor, whose scathing review of a popular Italian bistro has driven away all but the most loyal neighborhood patrons.

Lucrezia Serafina DiCicco is a clumsy business school drop-out, working as a chef and scrambling to keep her family's restaurant afloat, after her father develops diabetes and is banned from his kitchen for his own good.

Now, with The Monitor folding, Derek is searching for his next career path and longing to get back to his first love—cooking—while Lu is desperate for an influx of cash to save the struggling restaurant…even as her father puts his foot down about non-family employees.

Derek and Lu embark on a marriage of inconvenience to save the restaurant. But can Lu ever really trust the man who nearly destroyed her family, once noted her initials spelled “LSD,” and her food was like a “bad trip?”

Or will it be their hearts on the chopping block?

Excerpt: She brushed her hands on her apron and straightened her shoulders as she strode toward the bar. Not in the mood. So not in the mood. As if the hunky stranger had come here looking for a hook-up, rather than to send back his too-salty pasta fagiole or rubbery calamari or register some other grievance.
She looked a fright besides. The moon might resemble a pizza pie but amore did not live anywhere in the restaurant anymore, except in its name. As that bastard Derek Dunne had pointed out in his review. Vicious…but truthful, she had to admit.
As she approached the customer, she positioned herself with her back to the mirror over the bar, so she didn’t have to gaze at her sorry reflection. At least no one else was at the bar to gawk at her frazzled condition.
The man swirled a pool of condensation on the burled wood with his index finger. Strong hands. No rings, she noted. Up close and personal, his looks were even more devastating, the essence of hearty masculinity radiating raw, contained power, his body taut with  muscles beneath a finely-tailored suit that stretched across broad shoulders, his blue eyes intense enough to put her in a near trance. She gazed at his long, blunt fingers playing restlessly on the bar and imagined him sliding them across her heated flesh. Making her wet. Thrusting inside her. His thumb stroking her clit until it swelled, the pleasure so unbearable he had her writhing with passion, screaming for release.
Holy cannoli! What the heck was wrong with her? Was she that desperate? Yeah, probably. And yeah, he looked that good. Good enough to eat. With or without whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Oh, yeah. That image helped cool down her roaring libido. Not.
Suppressing a shiver, she cleared her throat. “I’m Lu DiCicco. You wanted to see me?

Inteviews with Victoria: Sam from Sam's Temptation by V.S. Morgan

Victoria: I'm happy to welcome Sam, from Sam's Temptation to the blog today. I plan on asking him a bunch of embarrassing questions. Let's start with my first, would you rather be caught with your pants around your ankles or tied naked to a pole?

Sam: I’d have to say caught with my pants around my ankles because at least I’d be somewhat mobile. If I was tied naked to a pole, with my luck my brother Nate would find me and dump honey on me to attract wildlife.

Victoria: Are you a love at first sight or love is for suckers type of person?

Sam: I became a love is for suckers type after my ex Veronica. So being on my own suits me just fine.

Victoria: When I say the word 'masticle' what do you think it means?

Sam: I have no clue, but Nate is looking over my shoulder and cracking up. So it’s sexual, right?

Victoria: I'll never tell. *winks* What's the kinkiest thing sexually you've ever done?

Sam: Okay, now Nate is really busting a gut. He doesn’t believe I’ve ever done anything kinky but he doesn’t know about the sexy time I had with my first college girlfriend in a department store changing room.
No, Nate, I’m not making that up….

Victoria: Tell readers in 1 sentence why your book is what they need?

Sam: If you enjoy food, family, sassy chefs, and ranches this book’s for you.  Oh, and Nate says sexy cowboys are in it too.

Victoria: Thank you Sam for swinging by. Now for all you readers here's some more about the book and a giveaway!

Blurb: On a working vacation in Montana, Chef Gabi Inez’s schedule allows her to enjoy planned activities and hangout with her cousin and his new family. She’s not looking for love, but spending time with a hunky cowboy sounds perfect. Gabi works hard, but every girl needs some fun. What if flirting leads to something more?

Sam Malone is the brains behind Blackbird, a guest and working ranch. Since his parents’ death, his sole purpose has been family and the ranch’s survival. Burned by love in the past, he avoids the distraction that comes with beautiful women. But what’s a cowboy to do when a sweet and sassy chef gets under his skin, only to be told by her overprotective cousin she’s off limits?

Excerpt: Marz was playing with fire. He damn well knew he was. But that didn’t make him want to pull away. He just wanted more of the heat. Marz nuzzled the side of Emilie’s face with his nose, his lips. She turned her face toward him and offered her lips. He couldn’t refuse. Capturing her mouth on a tortured groan, Marz poured every ounce of his longing and confusion and desire into the kiss. They grasped at each other and Emilie turned in his arms. He pinned her against the railing and planted his hands in her hair. She opened to him and accepted his tongue, sucking him in until Marz’s blood ran hot and his hard-on ached. He ground himself against her and devoured every little moan and whimper and gasp she spilled. Trailing kisses from her mouth to her jaw to her ear, Marz dragged a hand down her body and grasped her breast in his palm. She cried out and her head dropped back, drawing his mouth to her neck, where he licked and sucked and nipped as he kneaded her soft flesh. “You are so damn sexy.” Her hand flew to his hair and grasped the back of his head. “Touch me,” she said. “Don’t stop touching me.” Marz pulled away long enough to do a three-sixty scan. The lighthouse cast a dark shadow over them, and the pier was otherwise empty. His heart raced and his pulse hammered. He dove back in, trailing kisses down her neck to her collarbone, which he traced with his tongue. Her nails scratched deliciously at his scalp and her grip urged him down. Through the thin material of her blouse and bra, he mouthed and flicked at her nipple. He shifted the deep vee of the neckline to reveal a lacy royal blue bra. He tongued her through the lace until she was panting and moaning and writhing against the railing. “Oh, my God,” she rasped as he shifted her shirt and moved to her other breast. This time, he tugged the lace down to bare the deep pink of her nipple. She tasted and smelled like something fruity and sweet, and it made Marz hunger for more. “Derek,” she gasped. “Yes, yes, yes.” Her palm cupped and squeezed the bulge of his erection through his jeans. His hips jerked into the touch, craving more of her, all of her. He groaned and it seemed to egg her on, because she pressed and rubbed her hand against his trapped cock until he was panting and imagining taking her down to the ground. “Jesus, Emilie, you’re driving me fucking crazy,” he said as he worked kisses back up her body to her mouth. “I know just what you mean,” she said. Her molten hot gaze met his. Eyes hooded, lips shiny and swollen, cheeks flushed, she was a freaking goddess standing under the moonlit sky. He felt the force of her beauty every bit as much in his chest as in his cock. “You sure about that, babe?” he asked as he took her mouth in a deep, wet kiss. “Because my imagination has me stripping you of those fuck-hot jeans.” “Yeah?” She rubbed his cock in a long stroke with the heel of her hand. “Mine has us getting a room at the hotel back there. So I’m sure,” she said with a smile. Marz’s heart hammered against his breastbone and his cock jerked, clearly liking her idea, too. Except, if he took her up on it, he was going to end up buried inside her for as long as she’d have him. And so long as this clusterfuck of a situation defined their relationship, he couldn’t take things that far. Could he?   HTCB Available Now

Interviews with Victoria: Jack Bishop from Sliding Into Home by Anne Lange

INTERVIEW with Victoria

Victoria: Today I'm chatting it up with Jack Bishop. Recently married, baseball player, and oh-so-sexy (you'll see what I mean).
Welcome Jack, and let's not hold anyone in suspense. My first question is what's your favorite sexual position?

Jack: Too many choices. I love them all. What’s not to love? But if I had to choose, I’d say up against a wall. It’s raw.

Victoria: Ooh, I like your dirty mind. I'm all about the word raw when it comes to sex. Not too mention it starts with the same letter as my boyfriends first name. Next question is easy, boxers or briefs?

Jack: Boxers.

Victoria: Maybe that was too simple. Let me give you one a little harder *winks*. What's your biggest secret?

Jack: When my brother first told me he’d set me up on a blind date in Las Vegas. I thought for sure he’d set me up with a hooker. Please don’t tell Devyn that. She’d kill me. I was mad as hell at him. But now, I’m thankful, and I’ll be grateful to him forever. But I can’t tell him that. It would go to his head. That’s my secret.

Victoria: Ooh, I won't tell for sure. You had a blind date, I set up a 1Night Stand with my man and didn't exactly come clean with how he knew me until he showed up, so I understand. Now, describer your ideal woman or man in 3 words? Hell, why not both? *evil grin*

Jack: That is evil.  Woman is easy: Devyn Tate-Bishop *evil grin*  And for a man:  handsome like me *evil grin*

Victoria: In another world Jack Bishop I would've loved to take you on. Alright last question, my book is called 'What You Need' and I think it speaks for itself. *winks* What do you think about the author's title for your book?

Jack: Sliding into Home.  *winks*. I think it says it all, don’t you. I slid nice and easily into that nice warm spot where I belong. That’s my home and I have no plans to leave.

Victoria: You are one smooth talker, Jack. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope your woman keeps you around. If she doesn't... well, maybe I can talk Royce into some experimenting. ;)

Blurb
Can an injured ex ball player convince the woman he wakes up married to in Las Vegas to take a second chance on him?
After spending the last four months drowning his sorrows over the end of his baseball career, Jack Bishop finds himself winging through the blue skies to Las Vegas, not so ready to spend the weekend with some woman his best friend set him up with. He expects a paid escort. What he gets is the woman he walked away from ten years ago to pursue his passion, and she’s not very happy to see him.

Devyn Tate believes she’s quite capable of finding somebody to take her out to dinner. She’s no longer looking for a lifelong promise. She has a commitment only to her battery-operated toy to fulfill that particular need. Yet her friends have managed to talk her into spending the weekend in Las Vegas, on a blind date of all things. They promise the guy is trustworthy. They insist that she should have fun. Unfortunately, fun is not what she envisions when she discovers Jack Bishop lying on the floor of her suite in nothing but his underwear that’s on backward, and she has a wedding ring on her finger.

Author Bio:
Shoes are her addiction, but books are her passion.  Anne Lange grew up with a love for
reading. If you take a close look, she’s got either a book, her Kindle or her Kobo—maybe all three—tucked into her bag or a pocket when she leaves the house. You know, just in case there’s time to sneak in a chapter or ten.  Anne reads many genres of romance, but prefers to write sexy stories, often with a dash of humor, and usually with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about.

Oh, and always a happily ever after.

While embarking on this wild journey of becoming a romance author, Anne juggles a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Who needs a clean house every day?  And what’s wrong with cereal for dinner? She lives in Ontario, Canada with her wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.

New Release: A Model Hero by Sara Daniel #giveaway

Blurb: Gretchen Meyers is a full-figured woman living in a model thin world. Desperate to end her mother's constant, nagging stream of dieting and fashion “advice,” Gretchen tackles the challenge of reviving her mother’s faltering modeling agency. All she needs is to woo back Kyle Ramsey, once the hottest model in the country.

Making the preemptive choice to turn his back on his career seemed Kyle’s only option until Gretchen comes calling. He doesn’t care what she wants to offer him, the answer is no. Still, he’s intrigued by her refreshing personality and all her lovely, lush curves.

When tragedy strikes, Kyle finds comfort and healing in Gretchen’s arms. But he can’t trust her with his career-ending secret and she doesn’t believe their relationship will survive the long term. He’s perfect and she’s not even close. Can the fragile ties holding them together survive Kyle’s opportunity to become a true model hero?

Excerpt:
The restaurant scene, then, had done its job. Gretchen would have to send Jamie flowers. No, she’d send a box of fattening chocolates instead. “Did you enjoy your evening after I left?”

Kyle’s gaze narrowed, he pushed himself out of the chair. “Did you arrange with Jamie to drop by our table?”

“How could I, when I had no idea where we were going for dinner until we were there?” Not to mention, she’d have preferred to sever essential body parts than ask Jamie Feldman for anything. But her irrational possessiveness was her own problem. “The important thing is you had a good time, and you’re ready to make up for everything you’ve been missing over the past year.”

“Those things aren’t important at all.” He advanced on her slowly.

She took a step back and came up against the door she’d closed a moment before.
Kyle flashed a predatory smile. He took her purse and briefcase from her shoulder, setting them aside. Then he rested his forearms on either side of her head and stared into her eyes, his lips a scant inch from hers as he spoke. “I’m here for you. Our date deserves another shot.”

Her heart thundered. The thick eyelashes framing his gray-green eyes mesmerized her. He stood too near for her to formulate a coherent response. This much physical perfection and sex appeal should be outlawed. Her mind was not equipped to handle it.

“What do you say?” he asked.

Yes, take me. “I say, why me?” Her voice rose with an embarrassing squeak as she struggled to compose a rational argument and remind herself she was in her office, just feet away from her employees who’d never seen her anything less than one hundred percent professional. “I get why you went out with me on Saturday. You’d shut yourself away from the world, and I was the first woman to find you. But you’ve been reminded you can have Jamie or anyone else you crook your finger for. Why do you still want me?”

His gaze softened with a tenderness that pierced her heart. He brushed his thumb along her cheek. “How could I not want you, Gretchen? You’re smart and funny and beautiful and not afraid to let a guy who has no idea what you like order for you on a first date.”

NEW RELEASE: Rescued by Felice Stevens

Book Blurb: Ryder Daniels has spent the last year recovering from rejection: his parents couldn’t accept his sexuality and his lover chose drugs over his love. The only bright lights in his life are his younger brother and his rescued pit bull. But now his mother's punishment for his lifestyle has cut him off from his brother he loves so deeply. Devastated, he throws himself into the work of the Pit Bull Foundation he and his friends started.

Jason Mallory can no longer hide the dissatisfaction of his relationship with his longtime girlfriend. When her marriage ultimatum pushes him to break things off, he's determined not to jump into the dating scene. But when a group of injured pit bulls are found on his construction site, he can’t forget the guy who shows up to help.

After Jason adopts one of the dogs, he and Ryder become fast friends—until one night, Ryder lets down his guard and Jason recognizes his desire. Soon, they can’t deny the passion between them but will family differences and ugly prejudices keep them apart, or can they fight to prove that love is precious, no matter the flavor?

Author Bio: Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. She started reading traditional historical romances when she was a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until she picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that her interest in romance novels became renewed.

But somewhere along the way, her tastes shifted. While she still enjoys a juicy Historical romance, she began experimenting with newer, more cutting edge genres and discovered the world of Male/Male romance. And once she picked up her first, she became so enamored of the authors, the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion of the books, she knew she wanted to write her own.

Felice lives in New York City with her husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of her own. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. She practices law but daydreams of a time when she can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Guest Post: Zee Monodee - How I Rose Above the Slushpile

I started writing after reading the epic tale “A Suitable Boy” by Vikram Seth. I didn’t really care for the political backdrop of India during the time of its independence and Partition in the late 1940s, but I relished the glimpse into a world I knew almost first-hand, that of the Indian culture. You see, I’m a 3rd generation Indian born and raised on the island of Mauritius. I, a Muslim, grew up among Hindus, Tamils, Chinese people, African-origin peeps, mixed race folks...and on the outskirts of ‘our’ world were the White descendants of the island’s former colonists (mainly French, and English).

I’ve always wanted to write, and after seeing what Mr. Seth managed to do with his tale, I wanted to do the same thing for Mauritius – to showcase the life of culture, mores, traditions, and values we all lived here as members of the Indian diaspora. This is the world I know, and I wanted to share it. That’s how I started THE OTHER SIDE (Island Girls #1), the story of an Indo-Mauritian divorcee who leaves London and returns to the island, only to be shunned because she dared get a divorce. To make matters worse, she crosses paths with her first love, the one that got away...and he turns out to be a White man, descendant of French settlers who brought indentured labour from India to work in their cane fields after the abolition of slavery.
The book had everything I wanted to see in a story that would reflect my culture – societal opposition, gossip, overbearing mothers and matchmaking aunties, and the setting was my beautiful island that I tried to showcase both in its physical and lifestyle aspects.

And I was told, by people I considered authorities in the publishing world, that this kind of book would never stand a chance of being published. I was too unknown; Mauritius was too much of an obscure nation; my ‘drama’ wasn’t “Indian” enough....
I was a newbie, and I wanted to write. So I listened to those people, and shelved the books I wanted to continue writing. I dabbled into other genres – all of them falling into the ‘mainstream’ of popular fiction. Rom-coms set in London, romantic suspense set in Europe.... My heart still beat for the cultural stories, though, and I guess that showed in my work.

I went through a dry spell at that point – nothing of mine was ‘selling’, and in a way, no wonder, because these were perfunctory writings. You know how they say that when you’re passionate about something, it shows?
Well, this applies to books, too. Your passion shows in your writing – at one glance, an editor first, then a reader, can see which story was close to your heart because something intangible will resonate from those words, leap off the page to grab whoever is reading. That’s passion, and you need it to rise above the slush!

Case in point – around October of 2011, a friend of mine who was with Decadent Publishing emailed me about their 1NightStand line. The premise was that Madame Evangeline, who runs the agency, pairs 2 people on a blind date aka a one night stand. They can choose to be together just for the night, but more often than not, Madame Eve works her own brand of ‘magic’ because she brings together people who are totally suited for one another.
The best thing about this line, my friend pointed out, was that the stories could take place all over the world!

I thought, what have I got to lose? This story could be set in Mauritius, and it could have an echo of the cultural themes I loved to infuse in my work. I’d reached rock bottom by then, and so threw everything I had into this story of a Mauritian career girl who wants to forget for one night that she is an executive vice president of legal affairs and of mixed race, with no ‘side’ truly accepting her, and just be a woman. Madame Eve pairs her with a Swedish expat who’s working on the island and who’s not at all looking for The One. Clash of cultures, shroud of expectation, doomed-before-it-starts story between these two...can they make it when morning comes?
ONCE UPON A STORMY NIGHT was born, and written, and polished, and subbed....and about a month later, I had a contract offer in my inbox.
The kicker? The editors for the line had loved the unique, ‘different’ setting that I exploited without turning it into a guidebook, and they also adored the cultural slant of the conflict that made this story rise above the meeting of two career people who might’ve met their match.

I had thrown all of my passion into that story, writing what I wanted to write, showcasing what I wanted the world to see, giving conflict I knew first-hand because this was my world, my universe, and – as I’d always known it deep down inside – my niche in writing.
That story was my rise above the slush pile, and since then, I haven’t looked back. I now write what I want to write – evident in the Island Girls Trilogy, of which Book 2, LIGHT MY WORLD, just came out – and this enables me to satisfy my passion and also bring it to other genres I also love (like, I have series about small town romances set in England).

Want to rise above the slush pile? Write what you want to write, what your heart is telling you to write, what your passion will fuel! That’s the real ticket!

From Mauritius with love,

Zee

Guest Post +Release Day: Truth or Dare by Elizabeth Morgan

I so excited to be hosting fellow Decadent Publishing Author Elizabeth Morgan. She's discussing how she got started in writing, and the rise from the ever dreaded slush pile. Not to mention find out about her latest release: Truth or Dare

Although, I have been writing on and off since childhood, it wasn’t until I was studying Musical Theatre in college that I really started to get into it on a serious note. We often got assignments that involved us writing scripts as a group. Having to do this for college, I started to play about with my own ideas and produce my own work.

After reading one of my plays a friend suggested to me that I try writing a book as I could add as much detail as I wanted in to it. (She mainly suggested this, because I had gone and wrote a huge amount of background for both the world and the characters, and naturally to some degree, it wouldn’t be needed for a play.)

A year – and tons of other stuff later – I decided I would give it ago and sat down and started planning a book. It took me nine months to complete, and then after letting a few friends read it I ripped it to shreds and began re-writing it again. (That book was Cranberry Blood. My Urban Fantasy which I am re-releasing this summer along with its prequel She-Wolf.)

I think I got about roughly 60 rejections for the first three stories I wrote before being offered my first contract. Sadly the company shut down, and I found myself back at square one, but what can I say? I was determined that someone would like my stories, and I was right, February 2011 I got a contract offer for my modern fairy-tale re-telling of Rapunzel, Razel Dazzle, which was published in May 2011. (Razel Dazzle has since be self-published and re-released, and is available to buy from most online retailers.)

Since then I’ve had seven books published – I’ve had the rights to the three mentioned above, along with two others reverted back to me, either by request, or due to one of my publishing companies shutting down. All books have been, or will be re-submitted or self-published – and today: book number eight has released.

Truth or Dare? Is a naughty little erotic romance story that I whipped up after being inspired by a scene from the Big Bang Theory. (The scene where Lenard and Penny are drinking tequila? Yeah, that’s the scene. ;-P)

Ooh, now I've never watched the Big Bang Theory, but if it's that inspirational then maybe I should give it a shot, after I read this book.

Do you dare tell the truth?

A tequila fuelled game of Truth or Dare is not Dani’s idea of fun, but when Cameron, the jerk who rejected her a year ago is the one provoking her into playing, how can she say no? Not that he’s giving her the option in the first place.

Bravado compels her forward, but when the dares get physical and their friends leave them alone, Cameron’s questions turn to her feelings for him, and unfortunately, lying is not part of the game.

Will a dare give Dani the courage she needs to tell Cameron the truth?

Author Info:
Elizabeth started life wanting to be an actress because she loved entertaining people. She enjoyed nothing more than being able to make people laugh and to help distract them from reality for a few hours.
She studied Musical Theatre in college, but during her second year, her mind started to overflow with story ideas, so she began writing plays. Slowly, over the following three years, she was writing more and more, channelling every ounce of her imagination into the written word.
Now here she is, years later, hiding away like a hermit in her little cottage in Cheshire, England, writing like crazy and loving every minute of it.
